Prophet Muhammad (Sal) has said: It is the duty of every man and woman to pursue knowledge. For many centuries, Kayalpatnam has been renowned for being in the forefront of Islamic knowledge. However, for various reasons, the it has been lax in giving importance to the pursuit of worldy knowledge. This has caused considerable damage to the long term welfare of Kayalpatnam.

In order to stem this rot, IQRA Educational Society has been founded. Its origin has its roots in Kayalpatnam Welfare Assocation (KWA), Jeddah - but it now stands as a monumental effort of all Kayal associations and Kayal educational activists across the country and abroad.

On December 29, 2005, a massive event was organised at the Jalaliya Nikkah Majlis. Representatives from many social organisations attended this event. IQRA Educational Society came into being subsequent to this event.

The main objective of IQRA is to work towards making a graduate out of every Kayalpatnam student in the next five years (Kayal Literacy Vision - 2010). IQRA is trying to channel all educational scholarships through a single source. IQRA has appealed to all the Kayal social organisations - in India and abroad - to co-ordinate their distribution of scholarships through IQRA. They could do this by giving their share of fund to IQRA who would distribute it after proper enquiry. Social organisations can also give the details of those students receiving aid from them. This would help us in not duplicating the work.

An effort of this kind requires huge amount of support - in terms of financial help and logistics. We urge all the well-wishers - individuals and social organisations - to support the activities of IQRA wholeheartedly. In addition to supporting Scholarships scheme by sponsoring a student, the well-wishers could take interest in other projects as well.

IQRA is also inviting the well-wishers to join it to by becoming its member. The Annual Membership fee is Rs.300.
