One of the reasons why programs like Meet the State Toppers (a program where the top student - as declared by Government of Tamil Nadu - participates) are organised in Kayalpatnam is to make the educational community (including students) start believing - it is possible for our students to achieve the highest in the world of academics.
During one of the Meet the State Toppers events, the following goals were set. It was hoped - these
goals would be adopted by all the schools as their own. The goals were - by 2010, all schools in
Kayalpatnam should achieve 100% pass result; all schools must achieve 100% First Class score; all schools must
ensure every student's total score is above 1000 (out of 1200) at least; and a student from a Kayalpatnam
school should achieve the State Rank in the public examination.
To that end, it was heartening to see a majority of Head Teachers - in interviews given to Kayalpatnam.com this month - say
they expect everyone of their students to pass, a majority of them would pass with First Class marks and
what's more, a few may even score in the region of 1170 (out of 1200; a new Kayalpatnam school record if
achieved)!
In the least, those words show one positive thing: the aspirations are higher now and the expecations are
bigger too. An all-pass result alone would no longer be satisfactory. Why is this important?
There is an old proverb - aim for the stars and maybe you will reach the sky! For very long, most
students of Kayalpatnam schools as well as the management has been content to produce an all-pass result and a
little more. In today's world, that is a recipe for academic disaster. What you achieve in your higher
secondary exams - by and large determines what course you get to study, what college you get to join, which
company will hire you thereafter and so on.
We are glad to see - at last - above-average is no longer good enough for students of Kayalpatnam schools! It is the collective responsibility of all of us - to sustain this aspiration year after year - so that academic excellence of Kayalpatnam students would be not an exception, but the rule! |
