The HK PhD Fellowship Scheme
To help attract top quality doctoral students to come to study in HK, HK Government is launching a HK PhD Fellowship Scheme. The Scheme, which is publicly-funded and adminstered by the HK Research Grants Council (RGC), is an important effort to help enhance research endeavours for tertiary institutions in HK.
Fellowship Duration:
3 years
Award Amount:
HK $240,000 (~USD 30,000), plus a conference travel allowance of HK$ 10,000 (~USD 1,250) per year.
Application Requirements:
The Scheme is open to all students worldwide. Applicants should have:
1. a recognized bachelor's degree or above;
2. outstanding academic records and demonstrate excellent research skills
3. high proficiency in both written and spoken English
4. a global outlook and leadership skills
# Fellowship awardees may not receive other PGS at the same time
* In addition to the above, applicants must also satisfy the English proficiency requirements of HKUST and specific admission requirement prescribed by relevant program(s) of the University.
Application deadline:
1 December 2009
By this date, Fellowship applicants should have:
1. paid application fee (HK$150/USD20) and uploaded the proof of payment to the RGC OAS
2. submitted official certified true copies of academic credentials and referee's reports to HKUST directly.
(If the abovementioned items are not received by 1 December 09, the Fellowship application will be disqualified)
Timeline:
Dec 09 - Jan 10:
Each school at HKUST will shortlist applications after interviews, and a total of 90 nominations will be made from HKUST to RGC.
Jan 10 - Feb 10:
The Fellowship Secretariat at RGC will review nominations submitted by all HK institutions
Early Mar 10:
The Fellowship Secretariat at RGC will notify successful candidates the Fellowship Scheme results via email. A total of 135 PhD Fellows will be selected in 2010/2011 round of admission over the whole HongKong eight institutions.
