In 2006, 419 students from the five schools of Kayalpatnam took their 10th standard
exams. Out of this - at least 219 of them were girls. That batch of 10th standard
students are now - two years later - taking their 12th Standard exams. The total
number of students taking the 12th standard exams this year (from the five Kayalpatnam schools)
is 365. It can be clearly seen 54 students who took their 10th standard exams in 2006 aren't
taking their 12th standard exams in 2008. Why?
Number of girls taking their 12th standard exams this year is 207, a drop of 12 students
when compared with the number of students of the same batch that took their 10th standard
exams in 2006. In case of the boys however, it will be only 158 of them taking their
12th standard exams. A case of missing 42. What happened to this 42?
In the absence of hard facts, one can only speculate.
Of the 419 students who took their 10th standard exams in 2006, 22 failed (a majority of
them - boys). This accounts for a portion of the missing 54. What happened to the other 32?
What happened to them? We don't know! Did those failed students (22 of them) take their exams
again, we don't know the answer for that too!!
Did the 54 went onto pursue diploma courses after their 10th standard? Did they go and join
some shop - unable to pursue education for financial reasons? Or have they gone to some
other schools outside Kayalpatnam for their 11th and 12th standards?
All of these are important questions - for which our society must find an answer to.
Iqra Educational Society has set for itself the goal of making every student of Kayalpatnam
a graduate by 2010. This shouldn't merely be a slogan. Iqra and other organisations must
closely monitor the Kayal youth - much earlier than the 12th standard. They should work
closely with the Kayalpatnam schools - right from 6th standard and ensure no Kayalpatnam
student would ever dropout of school without successfully completing 12th standard - for any reason
- financial or otherwise.
