Muslim Politics in TN posted bySalai.Mohamed Mohideen (USA)[30 December 2011] IP: 205.*.*.* United States | Comment Reference Number: 15234
I guess only in tamilnadu, we can see too many “Muslim” political parties than their followers. Some of them are MMK, TNTJ, INTJ, IUML, SDPI/PFI, ML, INL etc. I dont know whether we need these many parties for 7% muslim poplution in India.
Even if we say, factions are inevitable in politics, still dont know the need of these many parties incase if all these parties are really working for a common goal (say whatever we muslims should get from govt or fighting injustice to the community) in politics. Already we are divided due to idelogiical differences/groups & we are further divided due to these many political parties. Poor muslim is confused with, to whom or which party they should be aligned to.
I think, the existence of these many parties in TN is mainly due to the "ego clash" between the leaders. In the begining, they started with one voice & one goal but later splitted into multiple factions/parties. I dont know how many factions of IUML exists in TN now. If am not wrong, Fathima Muzaffar has started a new party with the same name (IUML?). The same way, TMMK which was founded by Najath Members PJ, Jawahirulla, SM Pasha & Bakkar gave birth to MMK, TNTJ, INTJ once they had ego/ideological clashes with several "shameless" allegations.
For 7% muslim population in TN, I think we've just 5 or 6 MLA's to represent us. Muslims in Tamilnadu is overlooked. The main reason is, the division and disunity among these Muslim political parties/leaders push the cluster of Muslim votes in the state towards a complete state of disintegration because of which muslims couldn't become a big force to excel.
Also our muslim political party leaders are thinking that, they are married to main stream party (say DMK or ADMK) & never raise their voices (Keeping MUM!!) against the ruling party even if they do something wrong.
As far these politics concerned, I dont know when is the dawn for muslims in TN. Any how, atleast I see this as a good begining for these leaders to come to a common platform. I hope the senior leadership of these Muslim political parties should meet like this at regular intervals inorder to fight together for common issues which muslim community faces today.
