Assalamu alaikum,
We wish to clarify on some of the aspects of the announcement.
First of all, it won't be a popularity contest. We are aware that will lead to unnecessary heartburns. So - this wont depend on Internet poll or any other polling at all.
Secondly, the persons we intend to identify should be/will be - Insha Allah - such that everyone will understand and appreciate, he/she deserves it.
Thirdly, it would be a diverse category of people we would be seeking.
I will illustrate with some imaginary examples:
(1) It could be a teacher, who apart from doing his 9 to 5 job, goes beyond that and takes extra care of students (like visiting houses to ensure student attends class regularly, or talks to parents - advising them how to manage their children)
(2) It could be a councillor, who is honest, all that he/she earns from Municipality is that 500 rupees he/she gets for attending municipality meetings, goes that extra step to take care of his ward's voters (helping them for example in resolving property tax issues, water connection issues etc)
(3) It could be a student, who not only performs exceedingly well in academics, but is good in religious studies (like being a hafil), probably excels in sports, does something extra to his neighbours/family and so on
It could be many more stories like this. The idea is - we would like to identify people who go that extra little step to make a difference to lives of dozens of others.
There was a story about a bihar muslim boy, from poor background, only person from the town to attend school, travels miles to attend school, then comes back to his hometown to teach others. We will be looking for those kinds of inspiring stories from Kayalpatnam.
