After seeing the long list of comments and the interest kayalites are taking in this subject, first of all I would request admin to move this to the discussion board to continue before it disappears into the pervious month news and a few others miss the opportunity to read public opinion.
It is good to see the energy among brothers in maintaining a healthy arguments and airing their opinion with no hatred (hoping the admin has approved all of them).
I always had a doubt about the reach of the efforts and concerns discussed in kayalpatnam.com inside kayalpatnam and even attempted to post this in the discussion board (with no takers though).

This arguments and the counters so far had been from outside (the nearest is Tuticorin) and none from kayalpatnam. We need to find ways to include the local opinions – a quick survey locally would bring in more options and concerns.
I would insist caution on choosing categories;
Making it more generic like Best in Man / Woman etc... will create complexity and controversy. Instead making it specific like excelling in Education, Social Awareness, Philanthropy towards social cause, Environmental sustainability, etc… will make is more measurable and distinct.
I’m of the opinion that, appreciating the fact someone is good is not against ISLAM and we have better examples in this respect and acceptance of this from Prophet (PBUH).
To substantiate what Bro. Shameem quoted from Quran, " Inna Akramakum 'Indhallaahi Atqaakum"., we need to understand that as humans, all we can appreciate is someone’s demonstration and believe all intentions for this achievement will be paid by Allah on the day of judgment.
