We all knew very well how money played roll in the last by-election in our constituency. According to some unconfirmed report 18 million rupees were delivered in our home town alone. After receiving complaints from different quarters, Election commission took some measure to stop this immoral and undemocratic practice. One of them is check-points where police under the order from the election commission doing spot check.
Few days back, while we were returning from Madurai Airport (To Kayalpatnam) our vehicle was stopped more than 5 times at different check points cost us one hour delay. We saw few people were held up for carrying money without proper documents. Most of them if not all, appear to be small time traders and general public having their money confiscated, pleading with officials.
Now a days a By-pass surgery cost more than Rs. 300,000. People hand carry this kind amount in cash to pay their bills to the hospital and in most of the cases they may not have proper accounts. Election commission instead of catching the big fish who are dealing in millions, targeting small traders and causing inconvenience to general public.
EC may end up seizing few crores in total. But corrupt officials and politicians will find their way laundering their money (in billions)unscratched. EC should stop this action immediately for the sake of public interest.
