Nine dead in Dindigul road accident
The mishap occurred at Sempatti village.
Nine persons were killed on the spot and one person grievously injured when their car collided head on with a milk laden lorry on TheniDindigul Highway at Veerachikkampatti village near Batlagundu in the early hours of Friday .
The deceased were Imam P. Thamimul Ansari (25) of Pallapatti, A. Abu Sali of Pollachi, (27), B. Syed Ibrahim (25) of Pallapatti, S. Abdul Rahman (33) of Sukkankudi – all professors in Arabic College in Aravakurichi near Pallapatti, M. Valiullah Haq (25) of Pallapatti and teacher in Arabic College in Kumbakonam and his brother Imam Bazurullah Haq (32) of Pallapattti and Abdul Rahim (40) of Vedasandur and teaching staff in Arabic College Cuddalore, A. Aliba (20) student of Arabic College Aravakurichi and Car driver Mohan (42) of Kumarandavalasu near Aravakurichi.
Grievously injured vendor M. Khalil Rahman (46) of Thiruvengadam in Salem city was referred to Madurai GRH after treatment at Dindigul GH.
After post-mortem, the bodies were handed over to their relatives. The police said that the religious heads and teaching staff were returning to Aravakurichi after performing prayer at a new guest house in Kodaikanal owned by a Chennaibased industrialist as part of house warming ceremony. They left Kodaikanal after midnight.
In the impact of collision, the car was pushed to a deep gorge on down lane of the highway. The car turned into a mutilated scrap.
The milkladen lorry proceeding to Kerala broke barricade, skidded from road and overturned into a deep gorge. The lorry driver with minor injuries fled away. Large quantum of milk was flowing in the canal.
