There are many points raised in the above comment. I just want to focus on one: Choosing your dream, unconventional, new fields of study.
Curiosity and interest for a new field (let's say "Medical nanotechnology") is not bad. But, before you join that engineering or science degree, you should do proper research to know more about that field.
For example,
1. are there books on Medical nanotechnology?
2. Is the faculty trained in Medical nanotechnology?
3. What are the subjects involved, and can you learn all those subjects? [If you hate anatomy, you can't even pass the I year of MBBS & BDS]
4. What kind of jobs are available in India for that field? This mayn't be a problem when you join top institutes, like IISc, IIT.
I'm not discouraging the students from choosing the new fields. What i'm saying is don't choose some field just because it has a nice name, or because you want to go against the majority (Rebellious attitude). Doing so may lead to
1. dropping from the course (you lost interest, or couldn't study)
2. asking "Where / what are the Master's degree for my course"
