Wonderful effort and happy to see representatives from the various Kayal associations of different ideologies to get together and orgnise this coordination effort to cleanse our Municipality.

While it is just the beginning, concerted effort should be made to bring in all Jamaath representatives, as well as the “Kayal Muslim Iykiya Peravai” under one umbrella to have effective, collective representation to elect the next board members and a new Chairman.

Steps must be taken to bring in our non – Muslim brothers from the surroundings to avoid confrontation on various issues.

Let us also not forget the abroad Kayal Welfare Associations- through they live and work overseas- their inputs are as important as the local associations.

In this regard a few points should be noted:-

A) The future elected members should not be part of any political parties- including our community parties like IUML or TMMK as this would only create and increase divisions amongst us.

B) The notion that the Chairman or the majority of the members should be from the ruling party that rules the Tamil Nadu Govt. in order to facilitate welfare schemes and fund allocation etc, are ill founded, because it has proven otherwise. Many schemes which are essential were not even looked in to.

C) 33% quota of Women representation is in place and it is inevitable that we would be having at least 5 to 6 women members in the elected body. Firm actions must be taken to shun the existing status of electing a wife, mother, sister even “kamma” of another elected member. Concrete actions should be taken to educate and encourage our womenfolk to take up the responsibility.

D) A senate committee of elders from Jamaath must be formed to advice and monitor the elected members periodically, which would create transparency in their work and lessen corruption to a certain extend. This group could also guide and assist the members in major policy decisions for example the 2nd line water scheme, Under Ground drainage system, Tsunami housing, finding suitable locations for EB Substation, Solid waste management, slaughter house, one way etc

Let us all wholeheartedly support these joint organizations effort and sincerely hope it would achieve the desired results, and be careful not be hijacked by few powerful person like what happened last time.
