I think the word 'EriNatchathirangal' is a misnoma.
In the past, people would have thought it as stars falling due to burning. But now we know that they are just very very close by non-luminous objects which burn when they hit Earth's atmosphere.
... how abt a name change to 'EriKundrugal' or something :)
