We people fail to understand the fact that Imam Buhary did not know many hadiths what we knew today. That applies to Imam Muslim, Imam Thirmithi et al. Just because we have the collections of those respectable Imam’s great works (efforts).
Even though Islamic believes are based on Holy Quran and Authentic hadiths, we simply can not equate Quran with hadiths. We can’t seek parity with the two. Quran is the word of Allah. He is the author of It. He has authenticated It. He has promised to safe guard It from corruption, additions and deletions till eternal. But that is not the case with the hadiths. Hadiths are neither authenticated by Allah nor by His Prophet (sal). Prophet (sal) was not the author of the Hadiths. Hadiths are passed on to next generation by oral tradition. They were written almost if not at least a century after the demise of the Prophet (sal). Therefore they were not authenticated nor approved by Prophet (sal). Above all Allah never promised to safe guard them. Thus there bound to be additions and deletions, sometimes corruptions.
As far Imam Buhary’s collection is concern, it is called ‘Shaheehul Buhary”. But he never named it such. It was named later by someone (unknown). He even doubted some of the hadiths authenticity.
Let me come to the point. A person cannot be called as a Muslim if he/she doubted even an iota of Holy Quran. But that is not the case with hadiths, in case he/she refuses to believe a hadiths to be true just because he/she believed it contradicts Quran.
If there is any contradiction (or appear to contradict) between the Quran and Hadiths, we must fine tune the hadiths accordance with the Quran. Not the other way around. People specially in this page are fine tuning the Quran according to a hadiths in order to justfy a Hadiths which is believed to be weak.
